It was Suzanne’s birthday today so we decided to treat ourselves to breakfast at the Saltwater Cafe in Milford on Sea. So after dropping Max at school, we wanted to to do just that. Of all the eateries we have tried in the New Forest, this was our choice for today.
Trip Advisor rates the Saltwater Cafe as one of the best places for breakfast. It also got a mention in the 2019 November isse of the Sunday Times Travel Magazine. I mean, who are we to argue with the Sunday Times!
As a result, it seemed like a sensible choice. There are a few cafes in Milford on Sea, but the Saltwater Cafe seemed like as good a place as any.
Location
Milford on Sea is a small town on the edge of the New Forest and sits just south-west of Lymington. The Saltwater Cafe’s address is 106 High St, Milford on Sea, Lymington SO41 0QE. The closest car park is a couple of minutes walk away, on Sea Road.
The Saltwater Cafe is located on one of the roads just off the main village square. It is not really in the mainstream of the centre of town. However, it is only a short walk away from town past the Smugglers Inn pub and the cafe is on your right.
Inside the Saltwater Cafe in Milford on Sea
It is quite small, but that adds to the charm. Very nicely decorated, and I believe it has recently undergone a refurbishment.
There are seats for about 20, although I didn’t count them exactly. The simple wood nailed to the wall down the left gave you that funky, outdoorsy, beach feel, but also a clean and modern look.
The opposite wall was made up with giant chalkboards advertising a multitude of speciality teas and coffees. Shibu Tea, Masala Chai and Beetroot Latte for example. Along with your usual Lattes and Americanos and the like.
The menu is good and has something for everyone. From a full English to something a little more exotic like Smashed Avocado.
The server was smiley and eager to help, and within minutes we had our drinks of choice. A simple apple juice for me but a Hot Chocolate Special for Suzanne.
The apple juice was well, apple juice and the only thing wrong with the Hot Chocolate was that it wasn’t big enough!
A couple of things stood out on the menu, The Saltwater breakfast, Bacon or Sausage sandwich, or the Smashed Avocado as already mentioned.
I plumped for the Saltwater breakfast, essentially a full English, and Suzanne went for the scrambled eggs with bacon.
Both were presented impeccably and while mine was delicious, Suzanne did find the bacon quite salty. Of course, that is personal preference.
It certainly isn’t the cheapest breakfast. Our two breakfasts and the two drinks were over £22. But it has to be said, the environment, the decor, the location and the food itself made this justifiable
If you are looking for a tasty breakfast, in a seaside New Forest location, then you can do a lot worse then the Saltwater Cafe in Milford on Sea.
