On the 1st September 2013, we left what has to be said, a bright, fresh day in London, for sun, and eventually sea and sand of the West Coast of America. We had planned a 2-week road trip, trekking around and visiting, among others Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Yosemite, San Francisco, Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, Venice, LA…the list goes on. I will be writing about all these places as time goes on.
There have been daily posts on another blog about this, but I wanted to write a bit more here, and share some of our experiences and photographs with the WordPress.com community.
Firstly, a little bit about us. My name is Richard, I am a professional photographer, based in and around London.
As a result, I love taking photos when we are on holiday. For example, on this recent trip to the USA, I took over 62,500 photographs.
OK. I have a confession to make. 2500 were with my Canon EOS 5D Mk3 (an utterly brilliant camera by the way). 60,000 of them were taken with a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition. The reason for this was because, for the best part of the Road Trip, it was stuck to the inside of our windscreen, documenting our journey, one second at a time. There will be the odd Time-lapse movie posted here, so stay tuned.
Anyway, back to us. My wife is a nurse looking after sick babies in our local hospital.
And they are really sick. She is a sister on the Neonatal Intensive care unit and I have the utmost respect for what she does. Our jobs are so vastly different. I spend my day capturing and recording happy occasions…she is at the other end of the spectrum sometimes having to deal with their saddest days. I am sure you will learn a lot more about us as time goes on.
So, where exactly are we going on our 2013 USA Road Trip? We set off with very clear objectives as to what we wanted to see, the main places would be:
- Grand Canyon
- Las Vegas
- Death Valley
- Yosemite National Park
- San Francisco
- Pacific Coast Highway
- Los Angelas
- Santa Monica
- Universal Studios
- Hollywood
The map here is a GeoTagged Map from iPhoto, showing pins where my photos were tagged as I took them. It gives you a great idea of the route we took.
So that’s about it…next post will be about the start of our journey, from when we land in Phoenix (I won’t bore you with our flight details, nothing really exciting there!!). If you are a fan of travelling, road trip, driving time lapses, travel photography, then please like and follow this blog, I hope to be posting plenty of things over the coming weeks
