USA 2015 – 6th Sept – Driving from Binghamton to Geneva

I wake at 5 am still suffering jet lag. Maybe. I sometimes wake early when not on holiday and can’t get back to sleep. Rest of the family woke at 6ish and we enjoy bed snuggles while eating cookies and having a morning drink.

A shuffle to the window and the curtains get thrown back. The immediate view outside our window was uninspiring. A concrete jungle. Beyond that though, the glow of the morning sun was telling us the day had potential.

After yesterdays fun, today sees us driving from Binghamton to Geneva.

Max is still very tired. After effects of suffering from jet lag we presume. His newly developed cold can’t help though.

The restaurant gives us some milk for Max’s cereal so he could fill his tummy and be happy. We left the hotel and begin driving from Binghamton to Geneva. Max dozing off quickly in the car again and we, the grown-ups, stop for a very posh McDonald’s breakfast!!

Driving from Binghamton to Geneva – Ithaca Falls

The target is the waterfalls in Ithaca which we made after driving around for a while. We endure a tough walk to the foot of the falls.

The sooner our little man starts to walk, the easier these types of sightseeing trips will be.

A solitary bather had waded out into the river. Unsure of his motives, we let him carry on and we set about getting back to the car.

We headed north up the west side of Cayuga Lake, aiming for Taughannock State Park. We unwittingly pass it but that erroneous jaunt results in us being able to see the Taughannock Falls.

A short break stopped at the overlook to the falls before heading back to the car park for the Park itself.

Having paid our 7 dollars we go for a walk around the lake. It is hot but beautiful.

Dotted around the park are clusters of people. Some sitting out baking and but others finding suitable spots in the shadows of the many trees, no doubt moving their chairs or picnic blankets with the shadows as the sun makes its journey east to west.

After enjoying a drink on some steps, we head back to the car for the final hours drive to Geneva, occupying a small area on the northern tip of Seneca Lake.

The most basic hotel to date welcomes us, and after leaving our bags in the Hampton Inn hotel bedroom, we give Max his tea in the deserted hotel “restaurant”.

Our dinner is at a place called Nonno’s, an Italian just across the street from the hotel. A satisfying meal after a busy day tarnished though by a couple rowing at the next table.

It had been a pleasure, driving from Binghamton to Geneva, and we look forward to what excitement tomorrow’s road trip brings us.
