New Zealand Road Trip – A Day in Wellington – Our Final Day on the North Island
10th Jan. Day 10
KM’s today = 340
KM’s this trip = 1,413
Up bright and breezy to get down to Wellington at 6.30. Not much to write today as we spent 5 hours in the car.
On the road by 7.30 looking for a breakfast venue. Didn’t find one till 9.45. Both had eggs Benedict. Back on the road within 30 mins, and completed our 340km trip by 12.30. Not bad.
Checked in, to what has to be the smallest room so far. No upgrade here it seems 🙁 Headed out around town for a few hours.
New Zealand Road Trip – A Day in Wellington – Te Papa Museum
First stop was the Te Papa museum, some great exhibits, learnt a bit about earthquakes and volcanoes.
Left at about 5 ish to head up the Wellington Cable Car. Great views as you can see.
Cable car’d it back down to sea level, wandered around for a bit and thought we would look into the next couple of days activities over a shandy, or a g&t or 2!!! By this time it was 7.30 so we headed off to a little Italian called Scopa, as recommended by Suzanne’s NZ book. Pizza and Pasta had by all. Suzanne had Spaghetti Vongole, but nowhere near as good as when Paola cooked her’s in Rome.
Then off for a Cocktail or 2, which sounds simple enough. We popped in a nice little bar Suzanne liked the look of, great cocktails, extensive menus, a wide range of cocktails.
Some people may be concerned by the name of the bar, S&M’s, however, not us (cos we didn’t notice it!!!).
Ordered the first drinks, saw Freddie Mercury look-alike come in with his guy friend, then thought….eeeeek, are we in one of those bars!!!.
Anyway, decided to make a sharp exit (after another cocktail, obviously) for an early start in the morning.
Sad to be leaving the North Island. It has been a fantastic 9 days so far, a mixture of sun and rain, sightseeing and good company. Another 10 days to go, this time on the South Island, which much to see and do.
