Our wedding anniversary, and as a result, we went back to the hotel where we got married 2 years ago. The Berystede in Ascot. A MacDonald hotel and spa set in lovely grounds. Today was a beautiful but freezing November day.
It’s funny, November 19th always seems to be great weather. A few years ago we were heading back from New York, when we landed waiting for our taxi, it was cold but again, beautiful blue skies.
24 months ago today, it was chilly, but blue skies. Nov 19th 2013 was no different. As we sat in the outdoor hydropool, water as warm as it would be if you had a bath, we sat back, and peered at the trees and the blue skies, enjoying the moment knowing it wouldn’t last forever.
Prior to that we had checked in, and a room upgrade was much appreciated for us “regulars”, from the team at the Berystede. After dumping our bags in the room, we headed off to the spa. We had massages booked at 3 pm, so we had 3 hours to enjoy the facilities. We wandered into the Thermal Suite and made a beeline for one of the saunas, to find it pitch black!
Suzanne headed back to reception and after a quick call to maintenance, while we were in the hydropool there was light, and we could go and get nice and toastie in the sauna, then nice and freezing in the Igloo room.
It was then time for the treatment, full body massage for Suzanne, back and head for me. Very nice, very relaxing, and a little disturbing (for the massuese) having to hear me snore for a split second. Sorry!!
After that, we headed for the bar, for a quick drink. £11.60 for a beer and a G&T!! I remember when a beer cost…….!!
So we headed back to our room to get ready for the evening. Dinner booked in the Hyperian Restaurant for 8.30. Dinner was very nice, the waiter wished us a happy anniversary, so he must have been made aware.
I decided to opt for the blade of beef! which is what we had on our wedding day. Suzanne went for the pork belly. Both very nice.
After dinner it was out to the comfy sofa’s for coffee before heading back to the room for much needed sleeps. After drinking a bottle of champagne and a bottle of wine between us, we both slept like babies!!
