Canada 2017 – Day 13 – Victoria to Vancouver

We arrived at the ferry, in plenty of time this time. We were naive enough before to think we could turn up and arrive 30 minutes before departure and drive on!

In reality, 90 minutes a more of a target. We board with no issues, and once parked up we head up to the deck.

We perch ourselves near the window, watching as the ferry starts moving.

The trees inch away, every inch pushing us closer to our next stop.

Our next stop pushing us closer to home.

It’s a beautiful day. The perfect blue sky interrupted by brilliant white clouds. Every now an again giving us shade from the sun.

After we travel from Victoria to Vancouver

Arriving in Vancouver signals the end of our car hire, and we return it to the depot in the city centre.

We then navigate our way to Canada Place, the port of Vancouver. Flags are everywhere, reminding us 2017 is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Confederation

150 years ago, Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia unite. It creates the Canadian Confederation, called the Dominion of Canada.

We amble up and down Canada Place, enjoying the perfect temperatures. We look across, and over to our left is Stanley Park. Between us, there is a perpetual hum of light seaplanes.

They are relentless in their taking off and landing on the blue waters of Vancouver Harbour. It is a perfect day, with a light breeze barely able to sustain some sort of elevation in the proud Canadian flags.

We are not the only tourists. Others, vainer than us, pose for selfies, check the photo, then fix the hair, add a pout and go again.

We soak up the sights, and before long hunger gets the better of us. We find a cool bar / restaurant called The Tapp & Barrell and once seated we have a good look around.

I count a line of 4 or 5 TV screens in our half of the bar alone. Sports on every one, alternating along the line between Hockey and (American) Football.

Branded into the table is the name of the bar. this serves as a reminder to us every time we reach down for our local beer or our not so local Mojito.

We leave the bar after sunset, and are able to step back and enjoy Canada Place after dark.

The sails lit up on the pier. The tall office buildings overshadowing the Vancouver Olympic Torch.

The glowing blue icon that now has permanent residence here.

One photograph later, near the brightly lit CANADA150 sign, and we are heading back to our hotel.

Tomorrow is our last full day, and so only full day to see what we can of Vancouver.
